The Good, The Bad, The Hungry

ESPNS’s The Good, The Bad, The Hungry is a tragicomedy that follows the bitter rivalry between two major figures in the world of competitive eating. The film traces the rise of the legendary Takeru Kobayashi, a Japanese phenom who after eating a record 50 hotdogs at the Nathan’s Famous contest became an American cultural icon — and his opponent, the barrel-chested Californian Joey Chestnut. Exploring themes of freedom, nationalism, and the American Dream, the film also explores how Major League Eating founder George Shea transformed an eccentric pastime into an honored American tradition.
