APOLLO 1 is the personal story of three exceptional astronauts who were part of America’s great quest to reach the Moon. Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee were the first crew selected to fly an Apollo Mission, buoyed by NASA’s earlier success with Gemini in 1965-66. But their prototype Apollo spacecraft was riddled with design and manufacturing issues, and a disaster was waiting to happen. The events that followed shook the US space program to the core, and left a lasting impact on the crew’s families – and on all space flights since.
