Film will be preceded by a special Kids In The Spotlight short film.

Shorts Program: Family-Friendly (FREE)

This is a free family-friendly screening event. Join us for a collection of fun short films made by award-winning filmmakers from the U.S. and overseas.

Come dressed as your favorite character and get a fun treat!

Metropolis

Percussionist Tom Teasley performs his original live music accompaniment to a screening of Fritz Lang’s classic science fiction film Metropolis. In a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city’s mastermind falls in love with a working class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences.

Come dressed as a robot and get a Halloween surprise!

Modern Family

Join us for a free, advanced screening of a new yet-to-be aired episode of Modern Family. One of the most successful shows of the last decade, Modern Family has collected 22 Emmys and a Golden Globe, now beginning its 9th season.

Ty Burrell will join us for the screening and will offer a Q&A following the screening. Burrell is a two-time Emmy-winner for famously playing Phil Dunphy. The episode will air later this fall on ABC.

The Flood

The Flood is the love story of Mick and Lily. After fifty years of marriage, Mick (Ed Asner) loses Lily (Patty Pell) to a chronic illness, and faces the question whether their love is eternal, while his family struggles to understand his bereavement.

Filmmakers will participate in a Q&A following both screenings.

Nosferatu with live musical score by Tom Teasley

Silent horror movie classic Nosferatu, with live accompaniment by Tom Teasley. What better motion picture is there for Halloween eve? Nosferatu was directed by F. W. Murnau and is based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula.

Dress like a vampire and receive a Halloween surprise after the film!

Presented in partnership with the Reston Community Center: CenterStage.

Cop Dog

The sixth film in Bill Plympton’s Oscar-nominated “Guard Dog” series, in which our plucky hero has a new occupation: patrolling our airports sniffing for illegal drugs. You know that’s not going to end well.

Filmmakers will participate in a Q&A following both screenings.

Seppuku

Mari Yoshimori holds the U.S. record for the fastest 400 meter time in track and field. Shortly before Olympic trials, she learns that she has a potentially career-threatening torn hamstring. The news crushes her soul. Ignoring her doctor’s and mother’s advice, Mari keeps training and pushes herself too far—so far that the powers of nature thrust her into the depths of a psychological purgatory. While there, she meets her spiritual sidekick, Bettari. Petite, cute and mysterious, Bettari communicates through a handwritten sign as she playfully lures Mari deeper into her domain. Only Mari can decide whether Bettari intends to guide or destroy.

The Veiled

As a daughter grinds away as caretaker for her father, she discovers some memories are best left hidden under the veil of dementia.
