THE CASHIER is an R-rated dark comedy about faith, greed, hate—and the strange places where grace can show up. Glenda, a 78-year-old African-American church lady working as a cashier at a big-box hardware store, unexpectedly comes into possession of a winning $1.6 billion lottery ticket. There’s just one problem: it isn’t hers. The ticket belongs to Atlee, a clumsy domestic extremist whose plans—and connection to the ticket—set off an increasingly chaotic collision of characters, each with their own ideas about what $1.6 billion could solve. Guided by a stubborn moral compass and an equally stubborn faith, Glenda becomes determined to do the right thing. But as greed, desperation, and extremism close in around her, that simple decision becomes anything but simple. Caught in the middle of the madness, Glenda refuses to play by anyone else’s rules. Her weapons are faith, humility, compassion, intellect—and the belief that even the most broken people are worthy of redemption. Funny, profane, and unexpectedly heartfelt, THE CASHIER uses an outrageous lottery-ticket chase to explore something much simpler: the absurdity of hate and the power of love. Think Fargo meets Jojo Rabbit—or as if Quentin Tarantino and Aaron Sorkin got together to make an R-rated Hallmark movie.
