Dan Cohen is a six-time Emmy award-winning Producer - Director, with an extensive background in documentary filmmaking, and broadcast journalism. He founded West Street Productions, a documentary and video production company. Built on a lifelong professional and personal passion for space exploration, Dan is the Producer - Director of the award-winning PBS documentary “An Article of Hope,” with production partners Playtone, (Tom Hanks – Executive Producer) and Herzog and Company of Hollywood, California. The documentary has won “Best Film” awards in film festivals around the world, and was later broadcast on PBS stations across the country. Dan’s latest documentary “History-Gone from the Hall” is projected to premiere in early 2016.
Dan’s career as a Producer-Director has taken him from the top of the world – the Arctic with climate scientists, to the backstreets with law enforcement and first responders, to the halls of power in Washington, DC. His filmmaking career is rooted in journalism. Before establishing West Street, Dan spent more than twenty years as a television journalist and producer covering stories from the launch pad of America’s space shuttle, to war zones in Bosnia, the Middle East, and many natural disasters. As a producer, he is experienced in coordinating large teams, making tight deadline decisions and shaping programs.
Dan has been honored with top industry awards – for news programs, medical and science reporting and producing. He has won six Emmys, ten Telly awards (a top communications industry award), and The Ohio State University Journalism award for his achievements in investigative reporting
