Robert E. Simon (1914-2015) founded Reston in 1961. The previous owner of Carnegie Hall in New York City, Simon purchased 6,750 acres of land in Fairfax County, Virginia to create one of the United States' first planned community. Named after Simon's initials, Reston has become a model community design and a leading corporate technology and arts center in the Washington, DC metro area.
